Design and Technology

Intent

At Healdswood Infant and Nursery School our ambition is to nurture creativity and innovation through design by exploring the design and making sense of the world in which our pupils live. Our Design and Technology curriculum promotes curiosity and empowers our children to become independent and resilient learners.

Implementation

At Healdswood Infant Our Design and Technology curriculum is taught using inspiring sequences of learning from the Design and Technology Association ‘Projects’. These include:

  •  Sliders and Levers
  • Templates and Joining
  • Structures
  • Templates and Joining
  • Structures
  • Wheels and Axels
  • Nutrition

Our Design and Technology curriculum encourages children to design purposeful, functional and appealing products that are based on a ‘Design Criteria’. The three strands of design and technology at Healdswood Infant and Nursery School are: refining and improving designs; increasing technical knowledge; dexterity and accuracy in using tools  and materials and the ability reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of products. All of these three strands are revisited each year, using sequence of learning that are progressive and builds on prior learning. Our ambition is to provide, wherever possible, links to other subject’s disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering and art.

SEND Provision

At Healdswood our ambition is for all of our pupils to access our Design and Technology  Curriculum. These children are supported in lessons to provide them with full accessibility to the DT Curriculum. All children will be supported through scaffolding or adult support, to enable equal access to learning in DT.
