Intent

Our vision at Healdswood Infant and Nursery School is for PSHE to prepare our children for the opportunities, experiences and responsibilities of life and living in the 21^st Century. At the core of our curriculum is the personal development and well-being of each pupil and we wholeheartedly believe PSHE permeates through our school ethos and values. Our ambitious PSHE curriculum enables our pupils to recognise their identify, manage their emotions, develop their sense of empathy and be empowered to make informed choices. Our vision at Healdswood is to provide a curriculum which will encourage our children to be happy, respectful, resilient and independent individuals.  

At Healdswood Infant and Nursery School our PSHE curriculum:  

• encourages children to be responsible and independent;
• enables each child to develop positive self-worth and a sensitivity to the needs of others in school, the local community and the wider world;
• ensures that everyone feels valued and listened to;
• encourages children to lead healthy lives, understanding how to take care of their physical and mental well-being;
• celebrates diversity through exploring and respecting difference.

Implementation 

As part of PSHE, Relationships Education (RE), Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education England Regulations 2019 have made RSE compulsory in all primary schools from September 2020. At Healdswood Infant and Nursery School, we use the the ‘Talking Points’ Scheme to deliver the government guidance on Health and Relationships Education. The Talking Point Scheme uses books as a ‘Talking Points’ to promote appropriate discussions with children thus acquiring knowledge and experiences of:

• Respectful relations
• caring friendships
• Being Safe
• Online Relationships
• Families (EYFS and Y1)
• Caring Friendships
• Mental Wellbeing.

Our Talking Points Scheme also encourages children to develop respect for others and others’ opinions, a love of reading and empowers our pupils with the vocabulary and knowledge they require to live a healthy, safe, responsible and balanced life. Although our Talking Point scheme is implemented through our ‘Feel Good Friday’, the themes of the programme are also embedded in in our school curriculum, assemblies and the wider school life. We also have visits, visitors and other opportunities involving the local community to support children’s spiritual, moral and cultural development at Healdswood Infant and Nursery School.
